A peephole, in its simplicity, is a complex reality. The use one makes of it might be
revelatory on many levels: is it an opportunity? A temptation? A menace? So much
depends on what’s on the other side and that’s the challenge: you don’t know.
The “Peepholes” quartet leads a floating existence on both sides of this reality: being the
observer and the observed, embracing the anticipation of discovering what of its own
self is hidden. Sometimes “Peepholes” reveals something that’s always been there,
familiar; at other times what appears is completely unexpected. No matter – what counts
is that this quartet is ready to peep regardless, willing to transform the most individual
activity into a collective one, and devoted to finding ways to make the estrangement of
observing our selves observing ourselves observed by others vibrate in the sounds,
rhythms, words.
“Peepholes” appeared for the first time in 2015, playing a three-night residency in
Sowieso (Berlin). After some years the four musicians got together again for more
concerts and the music took off into new dimensions.
It is a band.
